Come along and read about the about young Huckleberry Spike and his companion Cranky Jim as they raft down the mighty Equestrasippi River!
Alright, after watching this week's episode, 'Dragon's Quest', this morning, I saw this scene and recognized it as a homage to one of my favorite American novels of all time, 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'
. While it was just a small snippet of the episode, I thought it was awesome to see (In fact, here's an illustration from the original book from 1884 that shows the scene)
. And if you really think about it, Spike is a bit like good old Huck Finn
to a degree. I can't say too much for Cranky Doodle, but he seems like a fun character that we'd love as time goes on, just like Jim
. Anyway, I just had to have some fun with this art.
This was super fun to draw, but I have to say coloring was a bit of a challenge since I don't like doing backgrounds that much. Overall, I say it was a good challenge that I succeeded at.Huckleberry Finn
